From Our Volunteers

Kelly Rokaird

I started as a patron to help clothe my two young boys when we had to move to Arlington. Shortly afterward I found myself volunteering at AKK for the past 7+ years. I enjoy helping parents pick out clothing for their kids! I help fill in for the volunteers when they need an extra hand. I have friends and neighbors text me giving me gently used clothing to bring. I recycle all my boys' clothes to AKK.  I tell everyone that is in need of clothing for their kids that are qualified. I've dropped off bags of clothes for kids at the high school. I pickup clothing to take to AKK within my housing development. On holidays my family have cleaned the facility. I enjoy every minute volunteering during my spare time there. I've done minor mending clothes at home, washing small stains out that are worth saving, replacing zippers/zipper pulls, and have eventually become "the shoe expert cleaning lady." I also have my boys volunteer several times a year. My family loves giving back to our community for AKK which has been so good to us. I'll even buy great deals to keep our inventory diversified. All the lady volunteers have a real comradery working as a team having fun as we sure laugh a lot for AKK to meet the needs of our great community! I have done volunteer work since my high school Tri-Hi-Sorority days.

I started volunteering at Kids Kloset 7 years ago after retiring from nursing. I love the people, the fun, the energy and most of all the mission. This is a wonderful organization!

After retiring and losing my husband, I needed more in my life so I have been volunteering for about 8 years. First was at a Cat Sanctuary, then at a Local Food Bank, now at the Kids Kloset. I love the coming together of local citizens.
